Growing dissension in the internal administration

of Fukien

Tar preparations made by Chau Yam Yan against

Shat Chan Ping.

(From our own correspondent).

Chau Yam Yan and the Squadron stationed at Fukien

have been on bad terms for a long time. Chau is parti- cularly jealous of Shat Chan Ping. Now a telegram has

been received from General Ho in Swatow dated the 27th

to the effect that Colonel Cheung at Cheung Iam sent

him a message on the 26th. which reads as follows:-

"On the 25th and 26th of last month, Chau Yam Yan

"had a dispute with Shat Chan Ping over the case of

"the Fukien Provincial Bank, Shat has fled to Ma Kong

"with his fleet, and Chau is mobilizing a large army

"at Foo-chow prepared to fight against him. At present *the position is critical."

The following is a copy of the telegram from

I am in receipt of a telegram "from Colonel Cheung at Cheung Lam dated the 26th to "the following effect,

**A dispute has arisen between Shat Chan Ping and "Chau Yam Yan over the case of the Fukion Provincial

Shat has fled to Ma Kong and Chau is måbilizing "a large force at the Capital and has had his guns aimed "in the direction of Ma Kong. The position is at present

"very critical.
